What does Bernie’s Sparrow Mean? [#birdiesanders ]
When an animal or being crosses your path or makes themselves known to you in such a blatant manner as the Sparrow landing on Bernie Sanders’ podium, you are meant to take notice. This being has come into your life with a message that you are meant to explore to provide deeper understanding and a new dimension to your experiences. They allow us to access universal understanding, giving us glimpses into other dimensions, and can occasionally reveal to us the future.
Such creatures are called “totems”. Webster’s Dictionary defines a totem as:
“A natural object, usually an animal that serves as a distinctive, often venerated emblem or symbol. A means of personal or spiritual identity.”
Typically totems are associated with Native American culture, however animal signs can be traced through a wide spectrum of global civilizations.
Each animal totem has their own “medicine” or message derived from their unique strengths, weaknesses and habits abilities.
the Sparrow Totem
Ted Andrews of the book Animal Speak cites Sparrow medicine as a ” Keynote Awakening and Triumph of Common Nobility”. If this is not the most perfect descriptor of the meteoric rise of Bernie Sanders and his campaign, I dont know what is.
Sparrows are incredibly common, but have flourished when other species have failed. Sparrow can show you that even a common little bird can triumph. Sparrow is often overlooked, its power taken for granted. Although it is small, the sparrow animal totem is both powerful and productive. Its persistence and integrity shows us that we do not have to be big to make a difference.
The sparrow has its share of lore, as with many birds. One story tells of how it was the one bird present throughout the crucifixion of Christ, making it a symbol of triumph after long suffering. It was a symbol of household divinities in Britain; and during the Middle Ages, it was a symbol for the peasants and lower classes throughout Europe. Peasants, at this time, were often helpless under the power of overlords. Because of this, they loved to hear tales of how the insignificant sparrow triumphed over such powerful enemies as wolves, bears, and eagles–the traditional symbols of nobility and those who mistreated the peasants.
Sparrow draws protection and power from numbers, as they are always in a clan, moving in clusters. This can be imposing and repelling to predators. Sparrow carries the medicine of safety in numbers.
If sparrow has made his way into your life he is reminding you to mind your self-worth and individuality. Sparrow wants us to sing our own soul’s unique individual song, just as they do.
During the middle ages, The Sparrow was the symbol of peasants and the lower classes. To the Greeks, it was the pet of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.
Sparrow associated traits : Powerful, Productive, Friendly, Persistent, Integrity, Simplicity, Caring, Creativity, Vigilant, Communal Empowerment
These qualities of the Sparrow totem were derived from multiple sources, yet all bear the common message of triumph of a little thing, over great adversity. Fingers crossed this is a foreshadowing message from Spirit.
