What is a Soul Mate?
The path to higher consciousness ain’t easy. Those who are on it have been through a lot of shit, lets be real here. The concept of a soulmate is often glossed over to connotate an almost mythical sort of love like the kind that only exists in fairytales and our dreams. In actuality, we have many soulmates, and they come into our lives to help us move through the traumas of the past to find understanding deep within ourselves, in order that we may evolve into the version of ourselves that we are supposed to be. They throw your truth in your face. They challenge you to remember who you actually were before all of the pain buried the real you you, because they already know the real you from many lives before, even if on this earth they barely know you at all. They change you forever… that is if you can let go of your mind long enough to let them into your heart … which is usually the hardest battle of all.
It all begins before we incarnate into a new body. The commonly accepted belief is that, around the time of creation, our creator/ the divine/ the absolute/ the higher intelligence / God created groups of souls together. Some call this a “soul pod” or “soul family” . Your Soul Family operates in the same way as your actual family, in that they (theoretically) love you unconditionally, and are in your life to help you learn and grow, while (ideally) always being there for you and accepting you through thick and thin. The difference with a Soul Family is that they keep re-meeting you life after life after life, not just during this one. I included theoretically and ideally above, in parenthesis, as many of us know, sometimes our family just drops the ball on the unconditional love and acceptance thing.. sadly..
It is a common misconception that Soulmate connections are always romantic connections, however , not so. Your mother, brother, sister, father are all most probably your Soulmates, and your best friend and boyfriend may be as well.
The simplest definition of a Soulmate is : Someone who is in your life to teach you something, as well as learn something from you.
Before incarnating we make a bond, or contract of sorts with our Soulmates- a promise of an obligation to teach xyz to the other. In the same way that someone can default on a loan, sometimes Soulmates bail on their promise to the other, and this results in the deepest of frustration and heartbreak.
[ The above image is of a poem in a lovely poetry book called ” salt.” by Nayyirah Waheed. If you vibe with what i wrote, and are on that twistingly challenging path to excavating the buried you, i think you might enjoy it. Each poem boasts a minimal word count, but maximum breath taking, heart beating effect. ]
